BioI'm 50-something years old and married, sharing my life with my hard-working husband (sometimes referred to here as "Mr. Moonshaz"), my 20-something daughter "Moonchild", who is working her way through college while living at home to save $$$, our big black cat Logan, who we adopted from a shelter in September 2003, and my little Betta buddy, Tatsuhiko, who joined the family in August 2009. I only update my personal lj sporadically these days; once in a while I manage to crank out a few entries, then I go quiet again for a while. I'm active at LJ in other ways most of the time, though, often at politically oriented communites such as Obama 2008
A few more random facts about me:
--I'm politically liberal and also liberal on most social issues. These issues include, but are not limited to, 1) reproductive choice and 2) full rights for GLBT folks (yes, that means I support legalizing gay marriage, among other things).
--Religiously, I consider myself a Unitarian Unversalist, although I'm not currently a member of a UU community.
--I'm not as green as I should be or would like to be, but my family and I do recycle our asses off. As much as possible of our discarded wastepaper, plastic, metal, and recyclable plastic go into the recycling bins provided by our condominium management.
--I absolutely hate smoking. I try not to be obnoxiously militant about it, but I can't STAND to be in the same room with a lit cigarette. Those things killed both my parents prematurely, and I don't plan on being next. I have chronic lung problems (asthma, and I've recently learned, mild copd), and when I look at a cigarette, I see DEATH. The day my state passed a law banning smoking in all public indoor spaces, I was thrilled beyond words.
--I love animals. I have a special affinity for cats, but I'm very fond of dogs, too, as well as just about anything else that has fur. Birds, fish, and herps are cool, too. (I'd LOVE to own a corn snake, but my husband gets squicked out by snakes, so that's out for now.)
